Who should Attend
APS employees who work in a supervisory role where there is a diverse range of responsibilities rather than a narrow specialistion or those who work in small or regionially based public sector related organisations.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible to enter this course you will need to:
- hold ACT Year 12 Certificate or equivalent or be mature age (20 years or over)
- be currently working in, or contracted to the public sector
- have access to the specific work practices and appropriate level of work-based projects required to demonstrate competency in the units undertaken

Objectives
On completion of this Diploma, you should be able to:
- Develop and use emotional intelligence to increase self awareness and better manage relationships in the workplace
- Develop and use emotional intelligence to influence
- Prepare, deliver and review a presentation to a target audience
- Facilitate workplace change in public sector environments
- Achieve operational results and effective working relationships through leadership, feedback and support of individuals in a workgroup
- Promote compliance with legislation through modelling and assisting others to comply
- Communicate effectively for working at middle management level with clients, colleagues and staff
- Model and encourage in others high standards of ethical conduct
- Manage own performance and professional development
- Promote diversity though effective and inclusive work practices
- Monitor and improve occupational health and safety policies and procedures
- Identify and undertake research, analyse information, apply results, maintain information systems and compile reports
Units of Study
This course is delivered in two sections:
Section 1 Public Sector Government (PSG)
- Develop and use emotional intelligence
- Manage personal work priorities and professional development
- Make a presentation
- Facilitate change
- Provide leadership
Section 2 Managing in the Public Sector (MIPS)
- Promote the values and ethos of public service
- Undertake research and analysis
- Promote diversity
- Use complex workplace communication strategies
- Promote compliance with legislation in the public sector
- Monitor and maintain workplace safety
If you successfully complete Section 1 you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment in Public Sector Government
If you successfully complete Section 2 you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment in Managing in the Public Sector
When you have successfully completed both Section 1 and 2 you will be awarded a Diploma of Government
