Empowering Lao TVET Leaders for a Digital Future

In January 2025, CIT Solutions hosted 15 Lao TVET leaders for a transformative three-week program focused on digitalisation, educational leadership, and innovation—shaping the future of vocational education in Laos.

For 3 weeks in January 2025, CIT Solutions hosted 15 leaders from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector in Laos.  The group was sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and included leading representatives from the Ministry of Education and Sport, and from a broad range of TVET institutes and colleges responsible for developing and delivering technical and vocational education and training across the country.

Laos is at the beginning of its journey to uplift TVET, with a strong focus on digitalisation and technology based on Australian experience. It is exciting to have the opportunity to help this group develop knowledge and skills as they build for the future.

CIT Solutions developed the delivery approach covering everything from VET in Australia, educational leadership skills and implementing baseline cyber security with Essential 8, to experiencing digitalisation programs at the National Archives and the National Library. The program also opened the door for CIT Solutions to partner with CIT across a range of areas of innovation and technology, demonstrating different and exciting pathways for the group.

Over the course of the program, participants experienced first-hand the many ways in which technology is used and taught in CIT. Visiting the EV Centre of Excellence introduced the concepts of partnering with industry and had clear connections to potential delivery in Laos.  The Forensics Murder House gave participants hands on experience of using simulations and technology in crime detection and the Innovation Centre demonstrated gamified approaches to helping new learners engage with career pathways. The nursing and aged care programs highlighted the many ways in which learners can build confidence and skills before being exposed to the workplace.

While working with CIT Solutions, participants were required to develop action plans. Using funding from the World Bank, the European Union and the Lao Government, action plans are being implemented across a broad spectrum, including policy development for the Lao TVET sector, new models of teacher training, implementing technologies including developing towards the use of learning management systems and using interim smart technologies such as Google classroom.  Employing their new knowledge of leadership, VET educational frameworks, government approaches to digitalisation and cyber security, the participants are working to ensure that their plans provide a solid basis for the future of TVET in Laos.

CIT Solutions continues to provide advice, coaching and support as the action plans are being rolled out.
