Hosted by two industry experts, Maggie Hall and Steven Mills, this Q&A session gave an overview of the changes to the Standards for RTO’s (2015), with the opportunity for viewers to ask our experts their questions.

We’ve recorded the webinar below, and have gathered all the questions asked for those who missed the webinar.

Q: WHAT ARE THE CHANGES TO THE STANDARDS OF RTOS (2015)?
A: From 1 April 2019, trainers and assessors will be required to hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment plus two additional units of competency or hold the current TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.

Q: WHAT DOES THIS ACTUALLY MEAN FOR ME AS A TRAINER AND ASSESSOR?
A: It means that from 1 April 2019, trainers and assessors working in VET or teaching accredited outcomes, will be required to meet certain requirements. If you hold the current TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, you are already compliant and need to do nothing.

The best thing to do is to check what units you currently hold as that will determine the amount of study you will need to undertake to be compliant.

Q: HOW DO I BECOME COMPLIANT?
A: If you hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, you only need two additional units to be compliant. These are:

• TAELLN411 Addresses Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills
• TAEASS502 Design and Develop Assessment Tools

If you already have just one of these units, you will need to obtain the other.

It’s also worth considering whether you want to just meet compliance or upgrade your qualification to the newest, TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. CIT Solutions have a number of pathways to the remaining complaint. See more information here.

Q: I JUST TRAIN PEOPLE AT WORK AND I’M NOT TRAINING AND ASSESSING IN AN RTO? DOES THIS CHANGE ALSO APPLY TO ME?
A: No, these changes only apply if you are training and assessing accredited VET qualifications or statements of attainment.

Q: HOW DO I CHECK WHICH VERSION OF THE QUALIFICATION I HAVE?
A: Have a look at your certificate, you’ll see it has a code on it. If it starts with BSZ or TAA you know that it’s an older version and you will need to upgrade to the new qualification.

Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UPGRADING MY QUALIFICATION TO THE TAE40116 AND JUST MEETING THE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS?
A: To meet compliance requirements you need to have two additional units along with the TAE40110 Certificate. This will not give you the full, new qualification.

To get the full qualification you need to meet the evidence requirements for two other units that were deemed not equivalent – TAEASS401 Plan and Organise Assessment Activities and TAEASS403 Participate in Assessment Validation.

Q: ARE THERE ANY BENEFITS TO UPGRADING RATHER THAN JUST MEETING COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS?
A: The benefit of upgrading to TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is that you will remain current for a longer amount of time. Some employers may require the newest qualification or prefer candidates who are up to date.

Q: WHAT DELIVERY OPTIONS DO I HAVE TO MEET COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS?
A: If you wish to meet the compliance requirements we offer the TAELLN411 Addresses Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills unit online.

Q: WHAT ABOUT IF I WANT TO UPGRADE MY QUALIFICATION TO THE LATEST TAE40116?
A: If you hold TAA40104 or TAE40110 and meet eligibility requirements, you are able to join the CIT Solutions Bridging Program which includes the two units required for compliance as well as the two non-equivalent units mentioned earlier.

Q: HOW CAN I COMPLETE THE BRIDGING PROGRAM?
A: You can complete CIT Solutions Bridging Program face-to-face or online. Whatever option you choose, you will be provided with resources and support.

If you hold the BSZ40198 you may also be eligible for the bridging program however you will need to complete additional assessment activities which will incur an additional cost.

Q: DO CIT SOLUTIONS OFFER FLEXIBLE PAYMENT OPTIONS?

Q: WHEN WILL THE NEXT TRAINING & ASSESSMENT PACKAGE COME OUT? AND WHICH OPTION DO I CHOOSE IF I WANT TO HAVE THE MOST RECENT QUALIFICATION?
A: At this stage, no one knows when the next training package will be released. However, if you upgrade to the latest TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, you’ll have the latest qualification.

Q: HOW MANY ASSESSMENTS ARE INVOLVED IN THE FULL UPGRADE TO THE NEWEST QUALIFICATION?
A: The amount of work depends if you have the included TAELLN411 Addresses Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills component, which if you don’t there are two extra assessments. With the rest of CIT Solutions Bridging Program, there are three assessments to complete.

Q: ARE THERE ANY FURTHER STUDY PATHWAYS AFTER COMPLETING TAE40116 CERTIFICATE IV IN TRAINING & ASSESSMENT?
