Deepen your appreciation and understanding of a broader range of wine styles. This course explores lesser-known, alternative, and emerging wine varieties, enhancing your wine knowledge and enjoyment.
This course is aimed at those who have completed our Wine Appreciation course.
WEEK ONE: The French Revolution
Varieties selected will be chosen from: Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio, Savagnin/Gewurztraminer, Viognier, Saint Macaire, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Malbec (aiso widely grown in Argentina) Mourvedre, Petit Verdot, Durif, Chambourcin, Gamay, Ondenc, Marsanne, Chenin Blanc, Rousanne, Colombard and Syrah.
WEEK TWO: The Spanish Inquisition
Varieties selected will be chosen from: Albarino, Palomino, Verdejo, Blanco, Macabeo, Garnacha/Grenache, Tempranillo, Crianza, Proximo, Graciano. Mazuelo, Mourvedre/Mataro and Pedro Ximenez.
WEEK THREE: The Italian Connection
Varieties selected will be chosen from: Vermentino, Soave, Dolcetto, Chianti, Barbera, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Nebbiolo, Arneis, Cortese, Fiano, Trebbiano Lagrein and Nero D'Avola.
WEEK FOUR: A Brave New World: unusual old and new World varieties
Varieties selected will be chosen from: Verdelho (Portugal), Gruner Veltliner (Austria etc), Furmint (Hungary), Carmenere (originally from France) and Carignan (both Chile), Pinotage (South Africa), Zinfandel (Croatia), Tarrango and Cienna (both Aust.), Muller-Thurgau (Germany) and Ruby Cabernet (USA).
WEEK FIVE: Automatic, System matic, Hydromatic: or just plain Organie (matic)?
Varieties selected will be chosen from a combination of traditional wines that are either organic, preservative-free, biodynamic or a combination of any of the three.
WEEK SIX:Fortified Fiesta
Varieties selected will be chosen from: Sherry, Port, Muscat and Tokay (Australia: and Brandy.
