About this course
Want to write but daunted by the challenges of a serious word count? Try the ever-popular short story, the ideal form in a time-pressured world. As you craft your own mini masterpiece, you’ll learn how elements such as character, plot, voice, theme and setting operate in concise tales. The course offers a balance of practice and theory, with writing exercises as well as opportunities to tease out ideas and grapple with issues. We look at selected readings and discuss them. Sharing your own work is optional rather than obligatory. We strive to maintain a safe space where people are comfortable exploring their own creativity.
