About this course
This comprehensive, hands-on course will help you understand what regular maintenance your vehicle needs, how to do it yourself or when to get a professional involved and what it should cost.
We’ll look at:
- Engine under bonnet and interior operating systems and service items
- Wheels, tyres, brakes, and suspension operating systems and service items
- Underbody operating systems and service items
Materials Required: Participants should wear old / work clothing and MUST wear fully enclosed shoes such as leather boots (no sneakers, thongs, or sandals) and bring eye protection to satisfy WH&S requirements. Participants should also bring any light refreshments they may require (drink / snack). Participants are invited to bring their own vehicle to conduct learning on – however are reminded that the course is not an opportunity to conduct advanced service and repair operations on your vehicle.

• Introduction and course outline.
• Why do you need to maintain your vehicle?
• How do you know when your car needs a service and what is it likely to cost?
• How to interpret and understand the service/maintenance schedule for your car.
• How to talk to a repairer to organise work on your vehicle.
• What is car identification and why do you need it and how to find it.
• What can you check yourself? Including fluid levels and tyre pressures.
• Answering your questions.
Session 2 - Understanding engine under bonnet and interior (operating systems and service items)
• Introduction and course review.
• Answering your questions.
Session 3 - Understanding wheels, tyres, brakes and suspension (operating systems and service items)
• Introduction and course review.
• Answering your questions.
Session 4 - Understanding underbody (operating systems and service items)
• Introduction and course review.
• Answering your questions.
Session 5 - Understanding your vehicle
• Introduction and course review.
• Answering your questions.
• This session is generally used to ‘fill in the gaps’ we will be answering any additional questions, looking at participants vehicles and exploring other automotive concepts.
ALL Sessions will provide the opportunity to look at participants vehicles, however this is quite fluid as the questions and tasks completed vary from group to group.
