Centre for Modern Languages (CML)

CIT Solutions’ Centre for Modern Languages (CML) is a premier provider of language training services. We have a network of over 200 certified language trainers in 27+ languages and deliver training to our high-value clients based in the ACT, across Australia and overseas.

Position Details

CIT Solutions is seeking for our Defence client entity a number of language partners to meet with students for two hours on a weekly basis to practise conversational language skills to supplement their classes. Language partners will be required on a 1:1 student / partner ratio or 1:2 student partner ratio consisting of the following languages and partner numbers: Chinese (36) (27 Melbourne, 9 Adelaide), Indonesian (10) and Korean (4).

The Language Partner program will be delivered under the guidance and supervision of DFSL staff. The period of engagement is 13 May 2024 – 18 October 2024 (less public holidays and term breaks).

The DFSL class hours are Mon-Fri, 0800-1200 and 1300-1630 (7.5 hours). It is expected that the two hours per week will be agreed to between the teacher, student and language partner but are likely to occur Mon-Fri, 0800-1200 and 1300-1630 or from Friday afternoon.

Conversation activities will occur off campus in the surrounding Laverton area or in Melbourne to allow for activities in and around key settings connected to the target language, such as diaspora communities, community centres, churches, markets, restaurants and shops. On occasion, the conversation activities can occur ‘virtually’ via online teleconference tools, such as Zoom or Google Meet.

Language Partners required for the Adelaide based Chinese Strategic Engagement Course (9 students) will be conducted via online teleconference tools, such as Zoom or Google Meet.

Ideal Candidates

  • High level of proficiency in the abovementioned languages
  • Knowledge of the history, politics, society, and culture of abovementioned languages
  • Sound level of proficiency in both written and spoken English
  • A current Police Check (must be no more than 28 days old)
