Purpose

ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students) applies to students studying in Australia on student visas. ‘Intensive’ denotes full-time study comprising a minimum of 20 scheduled course contact hours per week of face-to-face classes of English language instruction.

Multiple Levels of English for study and life Course offerings: Upper Intermediate, Advanced and Academic. The international students will have an assessment at end of course to assess their level of English as compared to IELTS level ranging from score of 5.0 to 6.5.  Some additional information here: National standards for ELICOS providers and courses (internationaleducation.gov.au)

Key Areas of Responsibility and Accountability

  1. Deliver, as per the timetable, face to face classes to lead/bring students to achieve the intended course learning outcomes.
  2. Support (instruct, materials development, student management) the delivery of the courses.
  3. Contribute to the development of curricula and learning and assessment resources.
  4. Apply a variety of Online teaching tools (if applicable).
  5. Work together with learners, other teachers and co-ordinators actively promoting a collegial and professional environment, and one that is in sync with the ethos of the international engagement mission.
  6. Provide timely, constructive, and appropriate feedback to students using the provided assessment criteria.
  7. In addition to teaching, ELICOS teachers are responsible for students’ assessment, lesson preparation, course evaluation, and Mid-Course and End of Course reports. All ELICOS teachers are to work together as a team to ensure the quality and consistency of the ELICOS courses.

Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Capabilities Required

  1. Degree or diploma of at least three years full-time or equivalent (teaching or other).
  2. Suitable TESOL qualification or qualification that contains TESOL as a method.
  3. Appropriate TESOL teaching experience or are formally mentored by a senior staff member with this experience.
  4. Demonstrated teaching capability & ability to use technology in classroom delivery.
  5. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills in a multicultural learning environment.
  6. Excellent written and communication skills.

  • Maximise student satisfaction.

Program Management

  • Adherence to curriculum standards.
  • Collaboration for program management, ensuring 100% participation in unit outline and term overview finalisation with colleagues.

Compliance

  • Adherence to relevant educational policies and regulations.
  • Documentation and reporting in line with administrative guidelines, including maintain accurate attendance and assessment records. and submit semester reports by the specified deadlines.

Other information

Work Schedule

  • Weekly on-site course session for 10 Weeks / 20 Hours per Week from 9 am till 3pm (including 1 hour lunch break).
  • Classes will be held in CIT Solutions, Bruce Campus, ACT.

Reporting lines

  • Reports to the Manager of Centre of Modern Languages or nominated personnel.
  • Collaborates with Academic Manager and Project and Administrative team members.

Salary and Benefits

  • Remuneration based on allocated hours for tasks under the key accountabilities and responsibilities.
