Budget & Financial Essentials Workshop Series


Overview

The Budget and Financial Essentials (BFE) Workshop Series is offered in partnership with the Department of Finance and Deregulation.

It is designed for people working in Australian Government who wish to gain an understanding of the basic principles of the Government's financial framework including the Budget process and appropriations.

Outcomes

By undertaking this training you will gain a greater understanding of:

  • the Australian Government's financial framework and its practical implications for the day-to-day operations of the Australian Government
  • the key elements and timeframes of the Australian Government's Budget process
  • the different types of appropriations and how they operate, the legislation and conventions that affect them, the key technical and process issues that APS officials should be aware of
  • external reporting standards used in Australian Government financial reporting, including the Government Finance Statistics and Australian Accounting Standards
  • the impact of transactions on the key Budget balances and how these balances are derived
  • the Australian Government's charging policies - cost recovery and competitive neutrality, its appropriate application to an activity and understanding the responsibilities as an officer within an agency that applies these policies
  • the Australian Government’s procurement policy framework – highlighting some of the key issues officials will face in government procurement

All modules are available for delivery in Canberra as well as interstate on a demand driven basis.
